Dr. Jeffrey Gladden formed AHC in 1997 after practicing several years in a mid-sized group in the Dallas area that sold to an extremely large (70+ physicians) cardiology group; one of many that are prevalent in the DFW market. He sought the autonomy, flexibility but also the collegiality of a smaller group.
AHC now consists of 8 interventional cardiologists and 1 electrophysiologist. AHC is currently recruiting an additional interventional cardiologist and another electrophysiologist.
AHC’s primary focus has been to build outreach practices in rural markets surrounding the DFW area. By focusing on outlying areas AHC has positioned itself in underserved markets with a greater prevalence of heart disease thus building one of the busiest and most productive practices in the state. Some specifics about AHC and their clinic
locations:
10 clinic locations (4 full-time, 6 part-time)
3 nuclear cameras
5 echo/stress echo machines (capable of peripheral vascular imaging as well)
6 hospital affiliations
AHC is a dynamic group with interests beyond the busy clinical practice.
AHC was a principal contributor in the founding and joint-ownership of the Heart Hospital at Baylor Plano. The HHBP is a $100mm, state-of-the-art facility dedicated solely to hearts. It is co-owned by Baylor Health Systems and area cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons. Dr. Gladden was one of two founders of the HHBP and his leadership was paramount in the four year project. HHBP has now been open two years, is in the top 1% in patient satisfaction and favorable outcomes. AHC partner, Bradley Leonard currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer.
Beyond the HHBP, AHC helps develop heart programs and cath labs for smaller hospital systems in outlying markets. Currently, AHC is part of a joint-venture with Baylor-affiliated Wise Regional Health System in Wise County and co-owns and manages the two cath labs located within the hospital. AHC helped open the first out-patient, diagnostic-only lab in Wise County in 2001 and has since helped the hospital progress into peripheral vascular procedures, device implantation, interventions and recently an open-heart program with the recruitment of a CV surgeon.
In addition, AHC is currently recruiting an interventional cardiologist to help build a similar program in Sulphur Springs, Texas (100 miles East of Dallas). This will be a partnership with Baylor-affiliated Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. AHC will own and manage a new cardiac cath lab currently under construction within Hopkins County Memorial.
The physician willing to work in Sulphur Springs will have ownership opportunity with this project. In addition to the cath lab projects, AHC also owns and operates an additional nuclear camera within Red River Regional Hospital in Bonham, Texas.
